Didn't sleep well, awake at 4.30, not sure if it was the time difference or excitement at it being the last day of the season!
Got some breakfast from one of the restaurants, just coffee, muffins and something similar to an sausage and egg McMuffin. Really nice.
Sandra had some missed calls from Sainsbury's bank, guess that must be to verify recent transactions. A bit drustrating as she phoned on Friday to inform them that we would be using the card on holiday in multiple US states! We went to the concierge to call them, we met Michael and he was so helpful. He rang the number for us, only to find out that customer service is closed on Sunday!
We asked Michael to recommend a restaurant for this evening. He got us booked in a one called Wisteria for 8pm.
We were going to hook up with Atlanta Spurs today to watch the game. We got a cab to Atlantic Station, a developed area with shops and bars to the north of the city. It was only about 15 mins in a cab but the driver was terrible. Am sure he didn't really know where he was going. Give me a London cabbie any day of the week!
The pub we were in was called Meehan's, your standard Irish bar abroad. Why is it that wherever you go in the world the is always an Irish bar nearby????
The pub didn't officially open till noon as they were showing the Spurs game. We met a nice guy called Mark, he's been a Spurs fan for a few years.
It is really strange talking to passionate Spurs fans who have never been to White Hart Lane.
The supporter's club is run by an expat called Michael, he has been in the States a number of years and has married an American girl.
Well, the game started, we were having drinks, everything was jogging along real good then it happened!!!!
Newcastle scored, Arsenal were winning and we were playing crap!
It was not a great result, we lost 5-1, Arsenal won, took 2nd place in the League and we were all in a state of shock.
Typical Spurs!
However, the guys in Atlanta Spurs made Sandra and I feel very welcome, it was a real pleasure meeting them. I look forward to seeing them when the come to England next season.
One of the guys gave us a lift back to the hotel and we had a bite to eat.
We decided to do the trolley tour of the city at 3 pm. We got a cab, again a driver with a bit of an attitude, didn't understand what Hilton we wanted. He told us Atlanta was a BIG city, he would never make a living in London. It seems they have to have an address rather that know where places are like, hotels, bars etc.
There was a big music festival going on right by where the trolley tour started, so traffic was a bit manic. We met a nice lady called Carol, booked our tickets and boarded the trolley. Our guide was a guy called Homer Simpsom, yes really, he was very informative. The tour lasted about 1 and a half hours. We went to several a district in the city, past Martin Luther King's grave and house where he was born. Atlanta is a great city, lots of small areas, slightly spread out so there is a spacious feeling about the place.
After the tour finished we walked back to the hotel, about 10 mins, and had a sit around the pool. The weather was really hot, Had a swim in the pool, the water was a bit cold but quite nice once you had been in for a bit.
After a while the sun went behind a tall building so we went to our room. Sandra got hooked on a war film , based on a true story, whilst getting ready but didn't get to find out the ending as we needed to leave for the restaurant. We got a cab and the driver really put his foot down. Most cabs here tend to be 6/7 sweaters and he was chucking around at speed like he was Lewis Hamilton!
The restaurant was in a really nice area, lots of nice houses and a few bars and restaurants nearby.
We went in, had to wait a while till the manager seated us, he was chatting outside to some customers that were leaving. The restaurant had a nice feel, very busy and good decor. Very Hoxtonish, if you know what I mean!
Hunter, our waiter, introduced himself, he reminded me of Jimmy Sommerville. Very small, Tintin haircut and turned up Levis with a hem!
Sarnie ordered a Cosmopolitan to drink, I had a beer. The menu had a wide choice but Hunter advised
us of the specials. One was a lamb shank, so we both went for that!
It was massive, it came with peas, carrots and mash potato but the shank was huge. I have to say that it was soooooo tender, the meat just fell off the bone. It was delicious. However, as I'd had a sandwich earlier in the day, I couldn't eat all of mine. A pity as it was so nice but I was just so full up!
Sandra managed to finish hers, we had a couple more drinks and Sandra finished off the meal with homemade ice cream.
We got talking to him, he asked what we were doing in Atlanta. We told him about our road trip and he was very jealous that we were going to New Orleans. He wants to go but doesn't think he would come back as he likes to party. When he found out we were from London he started talking about Eastenders and said how him and all the gay staff in the restaurant were looking forward to the new AbFab movie!
We got a cab back to the hotel, had a few drinks in the bar, updated the blog and people watched for a little while.
Eventually got to bed about midnight just a little bit tired after a hectic day!
Off to Coca Cola world and the Museum Of Civil Rights tomorrow.
